What is EYP?

About the EYP Network

The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a peer-to-peer educational programme, run by young people, for young people, that brings together youth across Europe to debate pressing issues of our time—history, politics, climate, social justice, and more.

Since its founding in 1987, EYP has inspired open-minded, tolerant, active citizens across Europe. Today, it is represented in 40 countries and involves around 25,000 participants annually through more than 400 events at local, national, and international levels.

Our network is a genuine youth‑driven programme: thousands of volunteers organise conferences, sessions, and trainings, making EYP a space of democratic participation, intercultural dialogue, and personal growth.

What makes the EYP unique:

  • Build Lasting Connections: Forge friendships across 40 countries, and become part of a 200,000+ strong alumni community—opening doors to international networks and lifelong bonds

  • Develop Real-World Skills: Gain communication, leadership, teamwork, facilitation, and intercultural competence through hands-on, non-formal education, using democratic procedures, and enhancing civic understanding

  • Engage with European Issues: Dive into debates on politics, climate, human rights, health, energy, and more—building civic awareness and the confidence to shape Europe’s future

  • Join a Youth-Led Movement: EYP is run by young people, for young people—from organising sessions to shaping educational strategy, volunteers drive the network

  • Diverse and Inclusive: Our programmes actively seek out young people from all social backgrounds to ensure a diverse mix of participants.

  • Uncover Future Career Paths: 75 % of EYP participants gained new insights into potential professional sectors—helping them explore future educational and career directions

EYP events combine non-formal education with intercultural exchange, organising events that typically include:

  • Teambuilding: Delegates build trust and collaboration within their committees.
  • Committee Work: Participants discuss and draft resolutions on European issues.
  • General Assembly: Delegates present, debate, and vote on their proposals, simulating democratic processes in a setting similar to the European Parliament.

Discover EYP: a dynamic, youth-led platform across Europe empowering critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and active citizenship.

EYP is honoured to operate under the honorary patronage of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Our strong alumni community now exceeds 200,000 members, bringing together changemakers across Europe. As a fully independent and non‑partisan, youth‑led educational programme, EYP equips young people with the democratic skills and confidence needed to build a more inclusive and open Europe.

EYP Romania taps into this vibrant European ecosystem, offering young people access to meaningful experiences, skills development, and international collaboration. Through this structure, hundreds of volunteers gain leadership experience and contribute to shaping both their communities and the European youth dialogue.

The Structure of the EYP Network

National Committees (NCs):
Independent, youth-led organisations in each country. NCs are responsible for organising events, selecting delegations, and fostering local engagement.

Board of National Committees (BNC):
A biannual assembly of all NCs that shares best practices, collaborates on initiatives, and co-decides key network-wide policies.

Governing Body (GB):
An internationally elected board made up of alumni and NC representatives. It provides strategic oversight, ensures quality standards, and supports long-term development.

International Office (IO):
Located in Berlin, hosted by the Schwarzkopf Foundation. It supports the daily operations of the network, NCs, and the GB, and provides administrative and project support.
